Getting ready for college 2024-25: 03. IT equipment you'll need

Do you have a device that's suitable for your course?

Wifi iconYou will need a digital device to take notes in class, create and submit assignments,  research online, join in with online lessons and communicate with your teachers and classmates.  Picture of a laptop

The type of device depends on the software you will be using for your course. If in doubt, get advice from your tutor. We strongly advise against relying on a mobile phone. You will need to create files and/or read large documents, which is very difficult on a tiny screen.

Headphones iconAs well as a PC, laptop or a Chromebook, you may need a webcam, microphone and speakers (built in ones are fine) or a headset that is compatible with your device.

Purchasing a device

Suitable devices can be purchased from high street and online retailers such as Currys PC WorldAmazonArgos or AO.  The make and model that you purchase will depend on your personal choice and budget.
