You will need a digital device to take notes in class, create and submit assignments, research online, join in with online lessons and communicate with your teachers and classmates.
The type of device depends on the software you will be using for your course. If in doubt, get advice from your tutor. We strongly advise against relying on a mobile phone. You will need to create files and/or read large documents, which is very difficult on a tiny screen.
As well as a PC, laptop or a Chromebook, you may need a webcam, microphone and speakers (built in ones are fine) or a headset that is compatible with your device.
Purchasing a device
Suitable devices can be purchased from high street and online retailers such as Currys PC World, Amazon, Argos or AO. The make and model that you purchase will depend on your personal choice and budget.
Protecting your device
For tips on protecting your device and digital data, as well as staying safe online, check out our Digital Responsibility guide.
If you don't have a digital device that is suitable for educational purposes and are unable to purchase one, you may be eligible to borrow equipment from the College for the duration of your course.
Priority is given to students who are most in need, for example those who are in Local Authority Care, are Care Leavers, Carers, Young Adult Carers, or have an Additional Learning Need, are eligible for EMA/ WGLG and have applied for College Financial Contingency Funding.
If you wish to find out more or to discuss your eligibility for support via the Digital Loans Scheme, please e-mail digitalloans@nptcgroup.ac.uk
Applications to borrow a device will open in September 2024.
