Safe Spaces: Spring break 2024

image of book, notepad and hot drinkThe college provides safe spaces during the holidays. They are welcoming places you can go if you are looking for some quiet time, or a place to work, study or just meet with friends. As a college student, you have free wi-fi, access to PCs and charging points. 

When the libraries are open during the college holidays, you are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks, and we also provide free tea and coffee.

This guide also brings together a list of the warm spaces and events available for you in your local community and some additional information to help with the cost of living.

The college will be operating a safe space facility from:

  • Week 1 - Monday 25 March to Thursday 28 March and
  • Week 2 - Tuesday 2 April to Friday 5 April 2024.

The Safe Spaces will be open from 9.00am to 4.00pm each day. Please note they will be closed on the bank holiday days. The spaces will be located at:

  • Neath College – D Block Library or A Block  
  • Brecon Beacons College – Main Site
  • Newtown College - Library
  • Afan College – Library or LRC

Students can also use their local public library and details of locations and opening times can be found in the Find a Safe Space tab

College libraries

The libraries are open during the holidays, but days vary on each campus. Y Gaer library will be open, but no college staff will be on site.

College support teams

The Student Support Team will be available for you to ask any questions or seek support. The main contacts are:

College Wellbeing Team: available Monday to Thursday from 8:30 - 5:00 pm and Friday 8:30 - 4:30 pm. Support can be accessed in person, by email. By phone / text and though Teams.

Study Coach Team: available Monday to Thursday from 8:30 - 5:00 pm and Friday.8:30 - 4:30 pm. Help with course work, exam preparation, or your learning strategies and the skills you have to help you get on.

The Safeguarding Team: immediate support to students in crisis across the Group.

Out of hours wellbeing support

You can still access out of hours support over the spring break.

There are many resources available on the Student Support Moodle pages that you can login to through the College website.

Student Kooth is an online wellbeing service offering advice and guidance, counselling sessions and drop in chats outside college hours, even on weekends. Visit Student Kooth using your college email address to login. 

and when you return to college, the counselling team will resume their service via face to face or teams, if needed just email counsellorreferral@nptcgroup.ac.uk

Financial Support

NPTC Group students may be eligible for a non-repayable payment from the Financial Contingency Fund (FCF) which can support with college meals, course equipment refunds, a bus pass or travel refunds, and childcare payments to your childminder.

Students may also be eligible for other funding.
