LGBTQ+

Introduction

  • Lesbian: a woman who is attracted to other women
  • Gaya person who is attracted to people of the same gender
  • Bisexual: a person who is attracted to people of more than one gender (attracted to men, women, or non-binary people)
  • Transgender = a person whose gender is different to the sex they were assigned at birth (e.g. they were raised as a boy but identify as a girl)
  • + : other gender and sexuality labels, including non-binary (someone whose gender is neither male nor female), and asexual (someone who does not experience sexual attraction).

As well as providing useful material for general interest, the content in this guide relates to the Global and Personal Responsibility unit of the e-step tutorial programme.   Find more information about LGBT+ issues in the Equality and Diversity course on Moodle.

LGBT+ History Month

LGBT History Month 2024 logo

UK LGBT+ History Month is every February. 

The theme for 2024 is 'Medicine - Under the Scope'.

Pride Month

June is Pride month, and it is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities all around the world.

June was the month of the Stonewall Riots in 1969, and the birth of the gay rights movement.

Pride month is about teaching tolerance, education in pride history and continuing to move
